FAQ

Hi there, please note we have now closed our books for 2023 for new clients. Any questions, or if you wish to become a Sugarflick client next year, please do get in touch.

COMMON

How often do I have to come in?

This does depend on the individual, the previous method of hair removal and also which body part.

If you are a regular female sugaring client, a Brazilian/Hollywood is normally every 5, 6, or 7 weeks and for a regular male client, a sugaring back treatment is usually every 2 or 3 months, albeit, sometimes this is down to the client and their lifestyle.

What we often hear clients say is that with waxing they had to go to a salon more often.

I often get ingrowing hairs will this be a better solution?

Good Lord yes! you will not believe how many clients mention this after sugaring.

We cannot guarantee that you will never get any ingrowing hairs, however many of our clients find that sugaring causes less ingrowing hair or none at all. You can read a lot more here

How does Sugaring work?

Unlike shaving and hair removal creams, sugaring (similar to some waxing) removes the hair from the root.

  • sugar sticks more to the hair than the skin, therefore less uncomfortable when removed
  • excellent for sensitive skin
  • causes less irritation
  • more accurate at removing hair than many other methods due to its consistency so
  • there is less hair breakage
  • it lasts longer than other methods because we can get out the smallest of hairs and from the root
  • we are extremely skilled at all body sugaring methods

If hair snaps off at the root this can cause irritation such as ingrowing hairs, pimples, and annoying red spots because the hair will have a sharp end and then as it breaks through the surface of the skin to continue its life as a hair, it can then cause you irritation.

You will most likely find yourself scratching and aggravating your skin, making it red and most possibly infecting the area with bacteria – so why put yourself through all that?

I’ve been allergic to wax so why would this be any different?

Our product is natural, made in-house by us, it is vegan and made with British sugar.

  • made from sugar, water, and lemon
  • no additives
  • doesn’t go on really hot
  • water-soluble so the product can easily be wiped away
  • does not raise your skin’s temperature, this can also cause a reaction, so great for diabetics
When heat opens your pores, any additives in any product applied can then seep into your skin causing a reaction.  Unless you are allergic to one of our ingredients you will be fine and it is extremely unlikely that you will get a reaction.

Gents

Will it look obvious I have had a back wax?

Because we are very skilled at blending hair it will not be obvious.  On areas such as your T-shirt sleeve or your collar bone we can give your hair a natural look with our “sugarballing” technique, blending in the area of hair to no hair.

I am a yettie can you help?

Please don’t feel that you are an extra for “Gorillas in the mist “. So many gents feel they are very hirsute,  but seriously we have seen it all before, as long as we have enough time then it will all be fine.  If you have never had it done before we will always make sure there is enough time. Pop in for a free consult by calling to arrange or complete the contact form.

If I am going on holiday can I be sugared a few days before?

Yes, you can but we do advise at least 2 sessions before a sunny break. Always be sure to follow our before and aftercare advice when having a brazilian or hollywood, which is sent to you by email, before your appointment.

Ladies

Can I bring my children?

We only permit over 18’s however if you ask in advance sometimes one of us can be present to babysit whilst you are in having your hair removal done – but this must be arranged in advance.

I have been waxed for years so I only need 10 mins !

Most likely not the case!

Firstly it will take you a few mins to complete our consultation form and secondly, we do not wax!  We are so often compared to waxing, so let’s get this straight! It is very unlikely that a waxing salon has used our techniques, and one thing is for certain, they won’t have used our product.  A fast job is often a bad job as hair will snap if someone is rushing. We do not rush you and our feedback will back this up.

It may be a case of “we have to fix a previous bad job” or send you away because you have come in too soon as the hair is still under the skin because it has snapped off or it’s just not ready yet.  We recommend at least 4 weeks plus for the next appointment.

Please give the hair a chance to come through, pulling at it the minute it hits the surface with tweezers or getting a treatment too soon is not a good idea. Patience brings great long-term results.

All questions about the time of the month?

Time of the month, Arsenal playing at home, red flag flying, shark week, and so many more, but jokes aside it really is not a big deal. Ok yes it can be more painful if you are near a period but if you have any concerns please read this post.

Pregnancy & a C Section

Not a problem if you are pregnant, but could be unlikely that you are able to get into a position needed for certain parts of your nether regions to be cleared if you near your due date.

General

Can I go to the gym after?

We always recommended you avoid anything after a treatment that makes you sweat, for at least 24 hours, especially exercise, sunbathing or sunbeds!

We send you aftercare advice before your appointment, please read and follow guidelines to diminish the chance of any reaction, if any!

Aftercare is the most important part of hair removal

Do you only do intimate sugaring?

We only offer what is on our treatment menu. We are a salon that specialises in Brazilian/Hollywood waxing with sugar for all genders.

For female facial hair removal, we now sell our own product, many years body sugaring experience has been poured into this kit.

Questions over the years

Instagram live, tik tok etc…

We are not a “show” and as a professional business, we would not be keen for our years of experience to be shared over the net for others to pick up and try.
